BSB50420 may suit an experienced employee preparing for people-management responsibilities, as well as a current supervisor or team leader. Discuss your work experience, learning needs and access to suitable evidence with WBS. How does leadership and management differ from human resources?

This diploma focuses on leading a team, influencing communication, managing workplace relationships and putting operational plans into practice. Human resource management has a more specialised focus on HR functions and processes. Compare these responsibilities with the work you perform, using our HR and leadership course comparison guide.

What could applying the learning look like at work?

For example, a team leader could use an operational plan to clarify responsibilities, discuss priorities with colleagues, check progress and identify an improvement. Preparing for a difficult conversation also involves communication, workplace relationships and emotional intelligence. These are illustrations of the capabilities covered, not a promise of a particular assessment task or employment outcome.

How are practical leadership skills assessed online?

Assessment may involve projects, written tasks, demonstrations and workplace or realistic simulated evidence. Your assessor will explain the evidence required for each task and provide feedback. Before enrolling, confirm how you will access an appropriate leadership context and any people or resources needed. See how online study works for the Moodle learning environment and trainer-supported process.

Can I study the leadership and management diploma while working?

Online learning through Moodle can fit alongside work and other commitments, with trainer guidance and Zoom support sessions by arrangement. Ask WBS to confirm your expected course duration, commencement arrangements, study commitments, technology requirements and support options in writing. Plan how you will access Moodle, prepare and submit documents, and take part in the Zoom onboarding meeting. Progress depends on your experience, available study time and successful assessment; a fixed completion time is not guaranteed.

How long does the Diploma of Leadership and Management take?

Your completion time depends on your available study time, prior experience, participation and successful completion of all assessment requirements. Study through Moodle with trainer guidance and assessment feedback, beginning with an arranged Zoom onboarding meeting. Before enrolling, discuss your proposed study arrangements and expected completion timeframe with WorkForward.

What are the entry requirements for BSB50420?

BSB50420 has no formal training package entry requirements. WorkForward checks course suitability, language, literacy and numeracy, digital capability and access to appropriate leadership or realistic workplace evidence before enrolment. If you are not currently supervising a team, discuss the assessment context and resources you can access; admission is not automatic.

Leadership and management or project management: which diploma should I choose?

BSB50420 focuses on leading people, managing workplace relationships and implementing operational plans.
